On Display Double Feature: Part II / 2021 MFA Thesis Exhibition
Part 2 of Double Feature, an exhibition that is actually two exhibitions with one name, took place at the Icebox Project Space in Philadelphia, PA from May 14 through May 27, 2021. Spanning medium, scale, and form, the artwork featured in the second half of Double Feature is the culmination of a two-year MFA program at the University of Pennsylvania. Thirteen artists came together to create a singular, layered, and ambitious exhibition.
I first met with these students (virtually) only four short months ago and to see the progress and realization of their work has been a pleasure. When we first met, we didn’t know what the world would look like in May of 2021. We met before there was a Covid vaccine available to the public, during the last days of Donald Trump’s presidency, and during a time when every plan felt tentative. And yet to see these students take on such ambitious projects in the face of uncertainty is a testament to their determination and ability to think beyond the limitations of their studio or circumstance.
